Maine State Police say heavy rain Friday morning led to three separate crashes on the Maine Turnpike, all due to hydroplaning.

Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer FOR the Maine Dept. of Public Safety, says all of the accidents happened in a short amount of time, between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m.

One of the accidents occurred at mile 15 southbound in Ogunquit. Moss said the driver of a 15-passenger van escaped without injury after the vehicle hydroplaned and crashed into the guardrail.

The vehicle’s fuel tank ruptured and caught fire.

State police are reminding drivers to reduce speeds and drive with caution during heavy rainfall and inclement weather.
