Three people have injuries after being trapped inside a car that hit a moose in the Penobscot County town of Alton.
Milford Fire-Rescue says it was called to Bennoch Road in Alton at about 3 a.m. on Wednesday to provide mutual aid.

They say the car was found off the road with three people trapped inside, including two with serious injuries.
The three were taken to a hospital. Their car was heavily damaged, with a shattered windshield.

The condition of the moose was not shared.
The Maine Department of Transportation reports that collisions with moose are a recurring and serious safety issue, with 69 moose-related crashes already recorded in 2026. The state sees May and June as peak months for moose crashes, with nearly half of all incidents occurring in June.
