A power failure took down 9-1-1 operations at communication centers in northern and eastern Maine on Wednesday.

The Maine Public Utilities Commission says the outage impacted two data centers that serve 24 public safety service organizations.

The outage began around 2 a.m. on Wednesday and was fixed by 3:30 a.m. In that time, 68 calls went unanswered, though some were multiple calls from the same number.

Susan Faloon, spokesperson for the Maine Public Utilities Commission, says the calls were returned, and there were no life-threatening emergencies that were missed.

Faloon says they expect to find out the cause of the outage within a week.
