PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (AP) Three airlines are bidding to provide service to the Presque Isle International Airport starting this summer.

Airport Director Scott Wardwell says city officials have begun the task of reviewing the three bids they received for essential air service.

A public meeting will be held on Jan. 3.

The bids were submitted by the airport’s current vendor, United Airlines, along with Silver Airways and Southern Airways Express.

The Essential Air Service program ensures that small communities that were served by certificated air carriers before airline deregulation maintain a minimal level of scheduled air service.
