PORTLAND, Maine (AP)  Maine’s largest airport is changing flight patterns which will increase the number of early morning and late evening flights over some nearby communities.

A spokeswoman for Portland International Jetport says the temporary change is due to a taxiway repair project that will impact departures and arrivals. The new flight pattern will be in effect from May 14 to June 15.

The spokeswoman says there will be more early morning and late evening flights over Portland, South Portland, Cape Elizabeth and Scarborough as a result of the changes.

Passenger traffic has increased at the airport since 2008, but the number of aircraft flying in and out has decreased by more than 30 percent in that time. The airport attributes those trends to airlines operating larger aircraft.
