A large police presence was spotted in York County on Thursday morning as police negotiated with a man who was threatening to commit suicide.

York County Sheriff William King says police were notified of a person in the Waterboro area threatening self-harm around 8:30 a.m. He contacted police around 10 a.m. to tell them he was at the Waterboro boat launch.

After an hour of speaking with a negotiator, the man voluntarily surrendered his gun and was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

King says the situation was resolved at 11:30 a.m.
