AUBURN (WGME) – From New York to Maine, celebrations are getting underway across the country, and in Auburn, it’s their first official New Year’s Eve bash ever.

After all these years, 150 to be precise, the city of Auburn is ready to switch things up.

“We’ve been in the shadows of Portland for a long time,” Auburn resident Anne White said. “Lewiston and Auburn really needs to start making a name for its self.”

On the last day of the year, Auburn is welcoming 2019 with their first “New Year’s Auburn” event.

“This is a great event,” Mayor Jason Levesque said. “This is the first of its kind in central Maine. We’re pulling in people from all over the state.”

It is night filled with live music, local breweries and food trucks.

“We do a lot of work in Auburn, they’re all friends of ours,” Owner of Pinky D’s Poutine Truck Randy Smith said. “Opening a new restaurant up the street we kind of have to be down here.”
