Bangor man to serve time after robbing a bank in a hospital

According to the Bangor Daily News, a man from Bangor was sentenced to 37 months in prison after stealing money from the branch of Acadia Federal Credit Union inside Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center.

44-year-old, Earl R. Torrence Jr. pleaded guilty back in February on one count of bank robbery.

During the crime, he slipped the teller a note saying that he needed money and had a weapon. U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services later learned that Torrence’s motive for stealing was to pay off a drug debt. U.S. District Judge John Woodcock urged Torrence to address his drug addiction during his time in prison.
