Bangor woman pleads guilty for role in death of 10-year-old son

A Bangor woman accused of killing her 10-year-old son pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Friday.

According to the Bangor Daily News, 37-year-old Jem Bean was charged for her role in the death of Braxtyn Smith in February of 2024.

The boy’s father and grandmother were charged with depraved indifference murder after the boy died in the hospital following months of abuse.

Bean will be sentenced after a jury trial for the father and grandmother, which was delayed until June.
