Boy struck by SUV while trying to board school bus in South Portland

A 10-year-old boy who was struck by a vehicle while boarding a school bus in South Portland was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

South Portland police say the boy was struck on Evans Street near the intersection of Hill Street a little after 8 a.m. Wednesday.

He was struck by a South Portland High School student driving an SUV. She told police she didn’t see the boy crossing the road or the flashing school bus stop sign.

The driver was charged with passing a stopped school bus with flashing lights. She has an intermediate driver’s license.
