A Maine man accused of murdering his 2-month-old daughter has pleaded not guilty.

27-year-old Trevor Averill entered his plea on Friday. He was charged with depraved indifference murder and manslaughter following the death of his infant daughter, Harper, in Turner last year. He now resides in Buckfield.

According to CBS 13 news, the state’s attorney says injuries on the child suggest she was shaken and that there was evidence of prior abuse.

Averill’s attorney called the case “circumstantial at best” while arguing to lower his bail, which was set at $50,000 cash.

Averill will appear in court again in December. For the depraved indifference murder charge, he faces 25 years to life if convicted, and up to 30 years for the manslaughter charge.
