PORTLAND, Maine (WGAN) A 49-year-old Buxton man has been sentenced on three OUI charges.

Cumberland County District Attorney Stephanie Anderson says John Forbis was sentenced on Monday in Cumberland County Superior Court.

Forbis was tried and convicted of Aggravated Operating Under the Influence last month, and sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison with all but 7 years suspended, with 3 years of probation. He’s also prohibited from using or possessing alcohol, possessing motor vehicle keys, or operating a vehicle.

He also faces another 6 months in jail for Operating with a Suspended License during an OUI suspension and a 6 year sentence for an Aggravated OUI.

Anderson says Forbis also has eight prior OUI convictions dating back to 1990. Assistant District Attorney Brendan O’Brien stated “his criminal behavior is not simply a matter of chemical dependency, it demonstrates a complete disregard for the law and the safety of the community.”
