Voters in Cape Elizabeth will vote on whether to approve a multi-million-dollar school construction bond.

If passed, Cape Elizabeth would build new elementary and middle school buildings and renovate Cape Elizabeth High School.

The town council voted 4-3 back in August to put the question on the ballot, but many in the small town of about 10,000 people are still split.

The bond could increase taxes by more than 20%.

Cape Elizabeth’s tax base consists of mostly single-family homeowners and an aging population. Opponents worry this bond measure could make the community unaffordable.

The election will take place November 8.
