Cinemagic closing movie theater locations across 3 states, including Maine

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) A New Hampshire-based movie theater company will permanently close all locations in Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Cinemagic theaters are in Saco, Westbrook and South Portland, Maine; Salisbury and Sturbridge, Massachusetts; and Hooksett, Merrimack and Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

The chain reopened some of its theaters last summer but Hollywood offerings and crowds were sparse.

Cinemagic’s parent company, Zyacorp Entertainment, announced in early February it was closing all theaters until the spring. Then it announced Sunday that the theaters will not reopen.

Some communities are harder hit than others by the closings. The chain accounted for 30 screens in the Portland, Maine, area leaving a potential void when the pandemic ends.
