Construction worker hospitalized after trench collapse in South Portland

A construction worker in South Portland was sent to the hospital after he became trapped when a trench collapsed Thursday morning.

The Dearborn Brothers construction worker was pulled from the trench by South Portland fire fighters.

Officials said the worker was conscious and alert following the incident, but no further information about the worker’s condition was immediately released.

The accident, which occurred at about 4:30 a.m., led to the closure of a portion of Cottage Road and the intersection of Cottage Road and Highland Ave.
