(AP) The seven-day rolling average of daily new cases in Maine has risen over the past two weeks from 120.43 new cases per day on Aug. 7 to 162.57 new cases per day on Aug. 21. The seven-day rolling average of daily deaths in Maine has risen over the past two weeks from 0.14 deaths per day on Aug. 7 to 2.86 deaths per day on Aug. 21.

The AP is using data collected by Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering to measure outbreak caseloads and deaths across the United States.

The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported on Monday that there have been more than 73,000 positive cases of the virus in the state since the start of the pandemic. There have also been 924 deaths.

Maine officials also reported that more than 70% of the state’s eligible population is fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have recommended indoor mask use in counties with high or substantial transmission of coronavirus. On Monday, the agency listed five Maine counties as “high” and seven as “substantial.” The only counties not listed in those categories were Cumberland, Sagadahoc, Kennebec and Androscoggin.
