Crews from the Portland Water District worked Sunday afternoon to repair a serious water main break in South Portland.

Police say they sent the Water District crews to the water main break at Waterman Drive and C Street.

Officers did not give a time estimate for when the rupture would be repaired, and asked drivers to avoid the area.

The intersection of the water main break is in the Knightville section of South Portland, which is adjacent to the Casco Bay Bridge.
