NORRIDGEWOCK, Maine (AP) A sheriff in Maine says a deputy has been fatally shot following a report of a robbery at a convenience store.
Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster tells the Morning Sentinel the deputy was killed Wednesday morning on U.S. Route 2 in Norridgewock.

Dispatch reports from the sheriff’s office said a robbery was reported at a Cumberland Farms store at about 1:40 a.m.
Police say they continue looking for the suspect 29-year-old John Williams from Madison. Police say he should be considered armed and dangerous and if anyone sees him, he should not be approached.
Williams is described as being 5’6″, about 120 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. Police say earlier reports that the sides of his head were shaved with a pony tail on top were not accurate and his hair most likely is longer, as it appears in a recent mugshot.
Our info partners at Channel 8 report Williams was due in court today in Massachusetts after being arrested in March on suspicion of carrying a firearm without a license, after a crash on I-495.

Police say Williams killed Cpl. Eugene Cole between 1 and 2 a.m., then took his cruiser to the Cumberland Farms. Police say he fled the store after robbing it. They found Cole’s marked cruiser, abandoned around 5 a.m. Williams is believed to have run away on foot.
Police say Williams should not be approached if seen. Instead, if you see him, immediately call 911.
