Polling heading into Tuesday’s election showed a majority of Mainers think Republican U.S. Senator Susan Collins will win reelection.
The final University of New Hampshire Poll showed 56 percent of likely voters think Collins will win, despite the same survey showing Democrat Troy Jackson with a nine-point lead.
Nearly all Collins voters (95%) believe she will win, while a less than half of Jackson voters (47%) think he will win.
The sentiment may be linked to 2020 results, when Democrat Sara Gideon led every public poll leading up to Election Day, only to have Collins win comfortably by nearly 9 points.
The polling was one of the worst misses in the country at the time.
The Real Clear Politics average of polls as of Tuesday – election day – shows Jackson with a 3.6 percent lead.
Collins sat 5.5 percentage points behind Gideon in the Real Clear Politics average in 2020 before Collins Handily won.
