PORTLAND, Me (WGAN) At the beginning of August Taylor Hamlin was named the Sea Goddess for the Maine Lobster Festival.

Within days she was forced to resign after social media photos showed her with a marijuana joint and a vaping device.

It generated a bit of a controversy and has resulted in the festival’s board of directors decision to change the process for checking into the background of potential goddesses.

Hamlin’s statements after the controversy erupted did not help the situation.

The Portland Press Herald reports that in a statement the board said it hopes to move on…and be more careful before naming any more goddesses.
