BATH(WGME)– The Maine State Fire Marshal’s are investigating a fire that started on Friday night at a Bath elementary school.

According to spokesperson Shannon Moss, the Fire Marshal’s Office was called to Dike Newell Elementary School (Grades K-2) on Wright Street in Bath around 11:30 p.m. Friday night.

Crews were able to put put the fire but say the building did suffer extensive damage.

Two firefighters sustained minor injuries and were treated at the hospital.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is working with the Bath Police department on this investigation and say the fire is considered suspicious.

Responding Fire Departments were Bath, West Bath, Brunswick, Woolwich, Topsham, Phippsburg, Freeport, Yarmouth, Wiscasset, Lisbon Also: multiple rescue units from Woolwich, Phippsburg and Brunswick.
