The identity of a good Samaritan who helped rescue a father and daughter from the roof of a burning home in Hallowell last week has been revealed.

Hallowell police asked the public to help them identify the man so they could properly thank him.

The Kennebec Journal reports that the man has been identified as Mohamad Daaboul, a Phoenix, Arizona resident who was visiting family in Hallowell.

Daaboul grabbed a ladder, and with the help of a local police officer, they rescued the dad and his 6-year-old from the burning home.

Daaboul met Wednesday with the man he helped save.

Fire officials haven’t announced the cause of the fire, but they believe it started on the front porch.
