AUGUSTA, Maine (WGAN) A guilty verdict was announced by a judge Tuesday in the trial of Shawna Gatto.

Gatto was charged in the beating death of 4-year-old Kendall Chick in Wiscasset in December of 2017. Chick, who was the granddaughter of Gatto’s fiance, was found with a swollen brain, several cuts and bruises on her face, as well as multiple bruises on her arms and legs after she died.

According to CBS 13 News WGME-TV, the judge said that the court believed the scene at the home had been staged and that Chick had been dead for longer than Gatto claimed.

Gatto faces 25 years to life in prison.
