Head-on crash in Searsport sends 3 people to the hospital

Photos: Maine State Police

SEARSPORT, Maine (WGAN) Police say three people were hospitalized following a head-on crash in Waldo County on Monday.

The two-vehicle crash happened on Route 1 in Searsport near Anglers Restaurant around 4 p.m.

74-year-old Ken Bailey of California was driving a vehicle heading north while 34-year-old Ivan Reynolds of Rockport was behind the wheel of an SUV traveling in the opposite direction.

Police say one of the vehicles crossed the center line and caused the collision.

Both drivers, including a passenger in one of the vehicles, had to be extricated using the jaws of life. They were all taken to Waldo General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and two were transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Maine State Police say seatbelts played a role in preventing more serious injury.
