A home undergoing renovation in the town of Pittsfield has heavy damage from a fire Sunday morning.

Firefighters say a neighbor reported heavy black smoke coming from the home on Hussey Road, and crews arrived to find it heavily involved in fire.

They say they worked to extinguish the fire and were able to protect a nearby barn and other surrounding property.

The residence was unoccupied at the time, and no injuries were reported, but the home sustained extensive fire damage.

The Pittsfield Fire Department requested assistance from the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

Investigators found the fire originated inside the residence, but the cause remains under investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

The fire was reported at about 5:45 am Sunday.
