An inmate at the York County Jail has tested positive for coronavirus.

York County Sheriff William King says the individual was arrested Wednesday and brought to the jail. King says they were asymptomatic and the screening tool at the jail didn’t detect any signs of illness. Jail protocol required a test, which came back positive on Thursday.

King says the jail is working with Maine’s CDC to initiate a response plan. That includes identifying staff who may have had contact with the inmate and getting them tested, as well as allowing any other staff to opt in to testing.
