A Massachusetts man whose car went off the road in Standish on Monday has died.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says the single-vehicle crash happened near 476 Chadbourne Road or Route 35 around 6:30 am Monday. A 2014 Nissan Altima had gone off the road and crashed into some trees.

The driver, 80-year-old John Behnke of Beverly, was pronounced dead at the scene after attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

An initial investigation found that he suffered a medical event before going off the road. His death is not believed to be caused by the crash.

The road was closed for about two hours while investigators processed the scene.
