Police are investigating after a Somerset County Sheriff’s deputy shot a man in Norridgewock early Friday.

According to CBS 13, police say the shooting was non-fatal. It happened next to the Cumberland Farms on Route 8 around 1 a.m. Friday.

Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster said the incident happened after police responded to a crash on Route 2 about half a mile away. Lancaster says the interactions with the man from the car crash led to an armed confrontation, and the deputy shot the man.

Police later identified the man as 24-year-old Trever Caouette.

Caouette was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center where he was expected to undergo surgery.

The deputy, who has not been identified, was placed on administrative leave, which is standard for all police-involved shootings.
