BELFAST, Maine (WGAN) A mother accused of participating in beatings that led to her 10-year-old daughter’s death in February 2018 has been found guilty of depraved indifference murder.

According to our info partners at CBS 13 news, Sharon Carillo faces 25 years to life behind bars during her sentencing, which will take place at a later date.

The verdict came Wednesday afternoon following final jury deliberations. Carrillo’s defense claimed she was also a victim of abuse and that her estranged husband inflicted the fatal injuries on Marissa Kennedy in Stockton Springs.

Her estranged husband, Julio Carrillo, pleaded guilty to Marissa’s murder earlier this year and is serving a 55-year sentence.

The crime shocked the state and spurred changes in the state’s child protection system.
