Legislature passes bill to ban driving while holding a cellphone

AUGUSTA, Maine (WGAN) On Wednesday the Maine State Legislature approved a bill to ban the use of cellphones and other similar devices while driving.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the bill would allow drivers to make a single finger tap or swipe on a mounted device. Fines for violating the law start at fifty dollars, but can go up to five hundred.

Governor Mills has not taken a position on the bill, and has ten days to sign it or veto it. If she does neither, it will become law without her signature.
