A 71-year-old woman is dead after she was struck by a vehicle in South Portland while walking home from Christmas Eve mass on Sunday evening, police say.

Paula McAuliffe of South Portland was crossing Highland Ave. when she was struck.

According to the Portland Press Herlad, police say the woman was not in a crosswalk.

The crash remains under investigation, but police say the driver is cooperating and it doesn’t appear that the driver was at-fault in the accident.

McAuliffe worked behind the scenes and in the studio for WGME-TV from the 1970s until her retirement in 2017.
