Maine adult-use marijuana sales continue to climb, break June record

Sales of adult-use recreational marijuana in Maine broke a record again in July.

Maine’s Office of Marijuana Policy says July’s total of just over $9.4 million in sales easily surpassed the figure for June, when retailers saw $6.5 million in sales.

Since October, when the first retail shops began opening in the state, prices for cannabis have come down for consumers. According to CBS 13, the Office of Marijuana Policy reports the price of a gram of marijuana was more than $16 when the first shops opened. It was just under $13 a gram in July.

David Heidrich with the Maine Office of Marijuana Policy says the dropping prices are due to more cultivation facilities coming online and more competition as new shops open. Heidrich says that there are 46 active adult-use retail shops in the state, with another 20 waiting for their licenses to be finalized.
