Maine CDC reports 4 deaths, 636 new coronavirus cases

The Maine CDC reported Friday that four more Mainers have died with COVID-19. It raises the statewide death toll to 540.

Also Friday, 636 new cases of the virus were announced by public health officials.

The Maine CDC has recorded 36,274 cases of the virus since the pandemic began.

Of those cases, 29,472 are confirmed positives, while 6,802 are classified as probable cases.

The 7-day average for new cases is now 528, down from 621 a week ago but up from 461 one month ago.

Public health officials say 1,309 Mainers have been hospitalized at some point.

The report comes as the state continues its vaccination effort. As of late Friday morning, more than 74,000 Mainers had received their first dose of a vaccine. More than 17,000 people had received their second dose.
