Maine CDC reports 45 new coronavirus cases, 70th death

The Maine Center for Disease Control reported a total of 1,648 coronavirus cases on Saturday, an increase of 45 cases compared to the day before, and one new death.

In total, the state has recorded 70 deaths among those with the virus. The latest death was a Cumberland County man in his 90s.

171 of the total number of cases reported to date have been considered probable. The rest have been confirmed through lab testing, according to Maine’s CDC.

19 Mainers who have tested positive for the virus have recovered since Thursday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,012.

Hospitalizations related to Covid-19 remained at 27 as of Saturday. 19 of those are in critical care, and 10 are on ventilators. Since the coronavirus hit Maine, 214 people have been hospitalized with the illness.

On Saturday, Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah said 364 of the total number of cases have been among healthcare workers.
