SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Active duty members of the U.S. Coast Guard stationed in Maine will not receive their checks next week if the government shutdown is not ended by then.

Members stationed in Maine are a part of the 42,000 active-duty Coast Guard members nationwide currently working without pay until the government passes a resolution that would restore funding to the Department of Homeland Security. The Bangor Daily News reports the Coast Guard has facilities in South Portland, Boothbay, Rockland, Belfast, Southwest Harbor, Jonesport and Eastport.

The Coast Guard is the only branch of the U.S. military that could go without pay during the shutdown, as all other branches fall under the currently funded Department of Defense’s jurisdiction.

A large portion of the Coast Guard’s civilian workforce has been furloughed without pay.
