The Maine CDC has reported the first pediatric flu-related death of the season.

Health officials said Thursday the child tested positive for influenza A.

Outbreaks of influenza and other respiratory viruses have forced some schools to cancel classes in recent weeks. On Friday, December 16, the Maine CDC was reporting 73 schools with flu outbreaks and 22 schools with COVID-19 outbreaks.

Health officials recommend that all children and adults stay up to date on COVID and flu shots.
