A 63-year-old Orland man is dead after his pickup broke through the ice on a lake Wednesday night.

Police say Brian Wardwell’s truck went through the ice on Alamoosook Lake in Orland at about 7:15 p.m.

First responders tried to revive Wardwell after pulling him from the water, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Maine Game Warden Sgt. Alan Gillis said in a news release that “ice conditions are poor in some parts of the state, particularly along the coast.”

Gillis said people in the Orland area, which is in Hancock County and where Wednesday night’s accident occurred, should not be taking vehicles out on the ice right now.
