ARUNDEL, Maine (WGAN) A Maine man is facing charges after police say he stole tires from a car dealership.
The York County Sheriff’s Office says 43-year-old Philip Daniels was stopped on Portland Road in Arundel Saturday night. A deputy noticed four brand new tires on brand new rims in the back of Daniels’s pickup truck. The tires were eight lug bolt pattern, which police say are specific to 3/4 and one ton GM vehicles. Daniels was driving a 2000 Gray Ford Ranger, which has five lug vehicle bolt pattern tires and is much smaller than a 3/4 ton truck.
Police also say a brand new tailgate was in the back of Daniels’s pickup. Police say since his Ford had a tailgate on it, they believed the tailgate to be stolen as well.
Deputies searched several local automobile lots and found a 2018 GMC Sierra 2500HD pickup truck missing its tires in the Arundel Ford lot. Police say further investigation at the Arundel Ford and nearby Weir’s GMC lot did not locate a truck missing its tailgates. Police say the estimated value of the tires is $3,200.
According to deputies, Daniels had been charged for theft of a tailgate at Arundel Ford.
Police also say Daniels’s blood alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit. He was taken to York County Jail where he was charged with OUI and felony theft by unauthorized taking or transfer. Bail was set at $100 for the OUI charge and $5,000 for the theft charge.
Daniels is scheduled to be in Alfred Superior Court on Jan. 5, 2018.
