A Dixmont man has agreed to settle a lawsuit he filed against the state for $400,000 after police shot him and blew up his home with a robot bomb to end a standoff.

According to the Bangor Daily News, 65-year-old Michael Grendell sued 18 members of the Maine State Police and one member of the Maine Attorney General’s Office.

That suit was settled in November 2020.

Grendell was shot by police during a standoff at his home in June 2018. He was in the hospital for two months afterwards and on a feeding tube. The suit states he also suffered hearing loss and cognitive damage.

The standoff followed a report from a neighbor that Grendell was suffering a mental health crisis and had shot him.

Grendell was sentenced to three years behind bars with all but time served suspended and four years of probation, which is set to end in October.
