A woman from Maine and two of her children died after a multi-vehicle crash in Virginia last week.

The crash happened around 3 a.m. Thursday on I-66 just before the Capital Beltway interchange in Fairfax County. Police said the driver of a Honda Crosstour with five people inside lost control of her vehicle, resulting in an accident that involved an SUV and a tractor-trailer.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Lacquora Smith of Alfred, was killed in the crash. Her daughters, 4-year-old Kennedy Smith and 6-year-old Kyson Smith, also died at the scene.

A 2-year-old and a 7-year-old were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The driver of the SUV also suffered non-life threatening injuries and the tractor-trailer driver was not hurt.

The crash is under investigation.
