The Maine Cultural Building in the state’s capital city will be closed for mechanical upgrades and asbestos abatement.

The building is located near the Maine State House and is home to the Maine State Library, Maine State Archives and Maine State Museum. The Kennebec Journal reports it could be closed for up to two years.

The building is in need of a new heating, cooling and electrical system.

It was built in 1967.

The state has approved $15 million for improvements to the building through the Maine Governmental Facilities Authority program.
