(AP/WGAN) The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported 614 new cases of COVID-19 and 5 additional deaths Wednesday.
It was reported Tuesday that the state had surpassed 1,000 total deaths since the pandemic began. As of Wednesday, the death toll was 1,007.
Cases are continuing to rise in the state, and health officials have said that is placing a burden on Maine’s health care system.
The seven-day rolling average of daily new cases in Maine has risen over the past two weeks from 316.43 new cases per day on Sept. 6 to 480.71 new cases per day on Sept. 20. The seven-day rolling average of daily deaths in Maine has risen over the past two weeks from 1.14 deaths per day on Sept. 6 to 4.71 deaths per day on Sept. 20.
The AP is using data collected by Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering to measure outbreak caseloads and deaths across the United States.
There have been more than 85,000 positive cases of the virus in the state since the pandemic began.
