BANGOR, Maine (WGAN) A Maine State Prison inmate is leading a class action lawsuit against the Maine Department of Corrections.

According to our infopartners at CBS 13 News, the inmates say the state failed to provide adequate treatment to those suffering from Hepatitis C.

The lawsuit alleges that the Department refused to treat the inmates until the disease had progressed to the point where they have permanent liver damage.

According to a chain of emails from corrections officials, only 3 of 580 inmates in custody who had the virus received treatment.
