Maine is among a number of states that have been approved to receive funding for electric vehicle charging stations through the Biden administration.

The $900 million in National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure funding for 34 states and Puerto Rico comes as part of the sweeping infrastructure law passed by Congress.

The goal is to create a nationwide fast-charging network for electric vehicles.

Maine is expected to see $18 million in funding through the program, but will use funding from other sources, including $8 million from the American Rescue Plan Act, to build more charging stations.

The project aligns with Gov. Janet Mills’ goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2045.

Residents could start seeing more charging stations popping up along major corridors starting next summer.
