Maine’s live venues impacted by pandemic can apply for federal grants starting this weekend

A new program established as part of the American Rescue Plan will provide financial aid to struggling live venues.

The portal used to apply for grants through the Small Business Administration crashed on the day it opened for applications more than two weeks ago. Maine Democratic Congresswoman Chellie Pingree was among a group of lawmakers who asked the SBA to fix the technical issues.

According to CBS 13, the American Rescue Plan set aside $16 billion for live music and performance venues that have been struggling over the past year.

Applications for grants will open Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
