OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine (AP) Maine’s mobile vaccine unit reached the end of its run Friday after administering more than 10,000 coronavirus vaccinations.

The state launched the mobile unit April 12 and has sent it all over the state, including to underserved and rural areas. It’s final day on duty was in Old Orchard Beach.

The unit was the product of a partnership between the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the state.

“As a result of the Mobile Vaccination Unit, thousands of people across Maine are now protected against COVID-19,” Democratic Gov. Janet Mills said.

The unit mostly used the one-shot Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine so it could be more efficient in its delivery. The vaccines were free.
