Maine’s school bus driver shortage worsens with pandemic

The pandemic has made Maine’s shortage of school bus drivers even worse.

The Gray-New Gloucester district spent some of the pandemic funds they got on two new school buses.

These will help space out students on their way to and from school, but it also means they need new drivers.

The problem is dozens of other school districts in the area also need bus drivers, and there are only so many of them to go around.

They say if they don’t get enough drivers, the district has some retired bus drivers willing to fill in, but they are still hoping for a more permanent solution.
