A man is facing numerous charges after allegedly causing an armed standoff at a hotel in Brunswick Wednesday night.

CBS 13 reports that police responded to the Best Western on Gurnet Rd. after getting reports of a guest threatening staff with a knife.

Police say the suspect, Richard Simpson, 38, of Tacoma, Washington, locked himself in his room and refused to come out, even allegedly threatening to stab officers if they tried to enter.

Brunswick police say their special response team entered the room and took the man into custody after a brief struggle.

Simpson was charged with terrorizing, criminal threatening, refusing to submit to arrest, creating a police standoff and criminal mischief.

He was being held Thursday morning at the Cumberland County Jail on $2,500 cash bail.
