Man Drowns in Pond Near Belgrade

The Maine Warden Service is confirming a man swimming in Ellis Pond near Belgrade, is dead after drowning.

The Kennebec Journal reports game wardens are investigating the drowning after being called along with the Belgrade Fire Department to the Ellis Pond boat launch on Wednesday afternoon.

Wardens attempted to do lifesaving measures, but the man did not survive.

The medical examiner will conduct the autopsy.

Ellis Pond is in North Belgrade and is between Messalonskee Lake and Great Pond
