Police say a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 95 in Augusta Friday morning.

Maine Dept. of Public Safety spokeswoman Shannon Moss says it happened shortly after 5 a.m. at mile marker 111 southbound.

Moss says the victim was identified as Matthew Galletta, 55, of Manchester, Maine.

According to Moss, Galletta was in the right-hand lane, and his vehicle was parked on the side of the interstate when he was struck by a pickup truck.

Galletta was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries.

The investigation into why Galletta was in the right-hand lane is ongoing.
